ObituaryWalter Max Melton, known to all as Max, passed from this earth Saturday, December 9, 2017, two days past his 82nd birthday. Max was born on December 7, 1935 in Mt Pleasant, Texas to Walter T. Melton and Minnie L. (Geasling) Melton. He graduated from Mt. Pleasant High School in 1956.
Both parents preceded him in death, as did brothers Carl and Ronny Melton and sister Marjorie (Margie) McClellan. He is survived by sister Jane Scott, brother Charles; ten nieces and nephews; and several great-nieces and nephews. Max's niece, Ann Reynolds was with him at his passing. Since he had no children, Ann and great-nephew Chad Humphrey, along with wife Leslie and children spent a great deal of time with him, especially during his final days.
Max retired from Montgomery Wards, Irving, Texas where he was in maintenance when they closed twenty or so years ago. Prior to that he worked at the Webbs Chapel store. He was a very active member of North Beltline Road Church of Christ in Irving until his health deteriorated.
The family will receive friends from 5-7 p.m., on Thursday, December 14th at Chism-Smith Funeral Home, 403 S. Britain Road, Irving, TX. Funeral Services will be 10:00 a.m., Friday, December 15th also at Chism-Smith Funeral Home. Inurnment is pending at DFW National Cemetery.

I went to school with Max. He was a dear friend. I have missed him a great deal over the several year passed. He will be missed by family, and friends he has made since 1956. May the Lord help heal the hearts of close family.
