Obituary

J L Pope, age 86 of Irving, Texas passed away on Monday, January 29, 2018. He was born in Dallas to Carie and Ethel Pope on December 3, 1931. They both preceded him in death along with the love of his life, Katherine Pope; daughter Cathey Pope; siblings Cecil Pope, Silvia Calloway, Marshall Pope and Curtis Pope. JL grew up in a large family and had to drop out of school to help support his family but his strong work ethic helped him to become a successful business owner. He owned Jays Moving Service for forty years in Irving. JL never met a stranger and was always willing to lend a helping hand. He was the entertainer everywhere he went with a joke or something to make everyone laugh. J L was a spiritual leader and godly example to his family and those who knew him. He was also a mentor to young men as a Royal Ranger Commander at Union Bower Assembly of God. JL also served as an usher and faithful member of Calvary Temple in Irving for many years. He will be greatly missed by his family and friends. Survivors include his son Rickey Pope and wife Leslie; daughter Linda Pope; best friend for over 30 years, Joy Borrego; siblings Kenneth and wife Carol Pope, Gene Pope,and Glenda Bird.; grandchildren, Ashley Gill, Amanda Bustillos, Michael Pope, Joshua Pope, Victoria Pope, Jayden Pope, Andy Andrews and Shauna Irwin; great-grandchildren Anthony, Aiden, Haley, Blakelyn, Layla, Kinslee, Neveah, Jacobi, Anthony, Aiden, Abel, Hayden and Nate; and numerous, nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. A Celebration of JL’s life will be 11:00 a.m., on Monday, February 5th at Calvary Church, 4401 North State Hwy 161, Irving, Texas.
