Obituary

Gertrude David (Mama) passed away on Wednesday 14th August 2018 in Irving, Texas at the age of 85. Mama was born in Charlestown Nevis to Anna Clarke and Freddie David, both deceased, on March 25th 1933. She attended the Charlestown Girls School where she was a good student. Mama lived her life in the traditional way which was raising her children and engaging in home care.
Her children appreciated the sacrifices she made to raise them on her own after their father Todd Glasford died in 1974. She worked diligently with her hands learning how to sew, and make things that her children needed to wear so that money could be used elsewhere. A lesson that she would pass on to her children and grandchildren. Mama migrated to Irving, Texas in 2004 where she continued to be an integral part of lives of her children and grandchildren. She was the glue that held her family together, helping where needed and as often as possible. Mama lived a simple life: attending church, baby sitting, and counseling. She was a great listener and advocate to anyone who felt wronged or overlooked. She was a godly woman who served God faithfully and with passion. Words cannot describe her investment and the indelible impression she made in the lives of her children and all who she encountered.
The family of the late Gertrude David would like to thank everyone for their prayers and assistance in this difficult time.
The family will receive friends from 6-8 p.m. on Friday, August 24th at the Funeral Home. Funeral Services will be 10:30 a.m., Saturday, August 25th at Chism-Smith Funeral Home with interment following at Oak Grove Memorial Gardens in Irving.

Mama I love you and always will.  I am grateful to call someone so family oriented, supportive, affectionate, and kind-hearted like you my great-grandmother. I would never forget the great memories we shared back home in Nevis when grandma Ionie would bring my brother and I to visit and spend quality time. One of my wishes was to come back and visit you one last time before the heavenly father above called you home. However, I love you dearly and will miss you Mama. Your memories will forever live within me .
