David Larry Johnson, fondly known to many as "Papa," passed away on March 14, 2026. Born on October 2, 1935, in Reddick, Florida, David was the cherished son of the late Ronald Wallace Johnson and Jessie Lee McConnel. Raised in Florida, he proudly called his home there until he embraced a new chapter of his life in Texas, where he lived for the past 47 years in Irving.
David’s commitment to service was evident early in his life. After completing his education at Ocala High School, Class of 1955, he dedicated four years to the United States Air Force, serving from August 1956 to August 1960. Upon completing his military service, he continued to serve his community in his role at the Marion County Sheriff's Department in Ocala, Florida.
Though David held a variety of roles throughout his life, the one he treasured most was that of being “Papa.” His enduring devotion to family was a cornerstone of his life. He was preceded in death by his beloved son, Darin Johnson. He leaves behind a loving legacy through his daughters Rhonda Rygiewicz and her husband Gary, Cheryl Wilson and her husband Danny, Kristen Williams and her partner Sean, and Amy Stoneburner and her husband Patrick. Additionally, David is survived by his son Austin Johnson and his wife Shawna. His family further extends to seven grandchildren and five great-grandchildren who will carry forward his memory and spirit.
A memorial service to honor David's life will be held at 2:00 p.m. on April 19, 2026, at Solid Rock Church, located at 121 S. Story Road, Irving, Texas 75060. Burial arrangements will follow at the National Cemetery, with details to be announced.
David Larry Johnson's life was marked by his unwavering dedication to family, community, and country. He will be remembered with great respect and affection by all who knew him.
