Listen to Obituary

Horalia Duran, a cherished member of her community, passed away peacefully on December 8, 2025, at the age of 74. Born on March 29, 1951, in San Antonio De Las Alazanas, Mexico, Horalia was the beloved daughter of Cosme Duran Saucedo and Patricia Mandujano Aguilar. She grew up in her hometown, where she nurtured her love for baking and art, activities that brought joy to her life and those around her.

Horalia dedicated much of her career as a private housekeeper as well contributed her talents as a server at The Ballpark in Arlington. Her commitment to serving others extended beyond her professional life; she was an active member of Templo Palabra de Fe as well as frequented Church of God Seventh Day, where she enjoyed hearing God’s word. She also found joy in baking cookies for her fellow church members. Her artistic spirit also shone through in her creations at Sunrise Senior Center, where she attended daily during the week and participated in the various functions with her friends as well as assisted the senior center staff when needed.

Known affectionately for her warmth and kindness, Horalia had a unique relationship with smiles. Despite her belief that she didn't like her own smile, her photographs tell a different story, showcasing her joy and love while engaging in various community activities.

She is survived by her son, Joe Duran, and his wife Sonia, her granddaughter Alexia, and great-granddaughter Soulia. Horalia also leaves behind her cherished siblings: Hortencia, Elodia, Idalia, Carolina, Griselda, Joel, Ariel, and Jesus, as well as her half-sibling Glafiro. She was preceded in death by her parents, and siblings Fidel and Cosme, along with half-siblings Ruben and Beatriz.

The family wishes to express their gratitude to Patricia Palacios and Cecilia Yañez for the additional support and being present for Horalia’s last moments and passing, reflecting the sense of community and care that Horalia fostered throughout her life.

Visitation will be held at Chism-Smith Funeral Home in Irving, Texas on December 17, 2025, from 3:00 PM to 7:00 PM. A funeral service will follow on December 18, 2025, beginning at 10:00 AM, also at Chism-Smith Funeral Home. Horalia will be laid to rest at Plano Mutual Cemetery on the same day.

Horalia Duran leaves behind a legacy of love, compassion, and the importance of community, reminding all those who knew her of the simple joys of life and the deep connections forged through kindness and service.
