Juan Manwell Alaniz

Juan Manwell Alaniz, known affectionately to many as “Johnny,” passed away on August 19, 2026, at the age of 61. Born in Albion, Michigan on May 29, 1965, Juan’s life was a testament to warmth, dedication, and an unmistakable sense of humor that lightened every room he entered.

Juan grew up in his cherished hometown of Albion, surrounded by the love of his family. The son of Juan Alaniz Sr. and Maria Alicia Roman, he attended North School High, where the seeds of his good-natured spirit and hardworking character were planted early on. His Catholic faith guided him through life, and it remained an important part of his identity.

He was a devoted husband to his beloved wife, Maria S. Alaniz. Together, they created a loving family from the time of their marriage on December 3, 1990. Juan was a proud and caring father to his children, Juan “Johnny” M. Alaniz Jr. (wife Cindy) and Natasha A. Alaniz. His legacy lives on in his grandchildren—Jaylene M. Alaniz, Jerediah Alaniz, Julissa M. Alaniz, May-Lei Alaniz, and Hezekiah J. Alaniz—each of whom brought him immeasurable joy.

Juan built a long career as a maintenance man and self-contractor, earning respect for his steadfast dedication and tireless work ethic. While he took pride in providing for those he loved, Juan’s playful side shone just as brightly. Known as a goofy yet sometimes grumpy character, Johnny had a knack for inventing nicknames and making silly faces, much to the delight of family and friends. These simple, lighthearted gestures were just reflections of his deep affection for those fortunate enough to know him.

A sports enthusiast at heart, Juan was a loyal fan of the NFL’s Dallas Cowboys, the Mavericks and Lakers in the NBA, and Major League Soccer. Music was another passion—he spent countless hours listening to rock and classic rock, watching music videos of his favorite artists: Black Sabbath, Ozzy Osbourne, and the Beatles. These pastimes provided much joy and relaxation, further coloring the vibrant tapestry of his life.

Juan’s loving spirit extended to his siblings: April K. Gianoli, Linda Alvarado, Gloria Arizpe, and Cindy Guerrero. His presence will be missed by his 22 nieces and nephews, and by his father-in-law Antonio Roman. He found joy in his extended family, always embracing moments together with humor and affection.

He is now reunited with loved ones who preceded him in death: his father Juan Alaniz Sr., his mother Maria Alicia Roman, his nephew Joseph D. Arizpe, his aunt Vida Alaniz Saldana, and Alex.

Through the memories shared by all who knew him, Juan’s legacy endures—one of hard work, deep devotion, laughter, and unwavering love. His kindness and unmistakable personality will never be forgotten.

A memorial service to honor and celebrate the life of Juan Manwell Alaniz will be held in accordance with his family’s wishes.
