Macario Y. Arredondo

Macario Yanez Arredondo, fondly known as Max, Macky, or Gordo to those who knew him well, passed away peacefully on June 8, 2026, in Sterling City, Texas. Born on February 23, 1938, in Sonora, Texas, Macario was a cherished husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, and friend whose life was marked by simplicity, warmth, and deep devotion to his family and community.

Macario was the beloved son of Librado Arredondo and Luisa Yanez. He spent his formative years in Sonora, Texas, where he developed a strong work ethic that later defined his career as a dedicated meat packer. Though he did not attend high school or college, Macario’s life was rich with the lessons of hard work, kindness, and unwavering faith. A devout Christian, he was known for his humility and his commitment to living a life rooted in love and respect for others.

On November 23, 1961, Macario married the love of his life, Francisca Ramirez. Together, they built a loving family and shared a lifetime of memories until her passing. Macario’s family was the center of his universe, and he poured his heart into his children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. He is survived by his daughters Delma Arredondo, Telma Arredondo, Lupe Guevara, and Angelica Arellano. His legacy lives on through his grandchildren Glen Duque, Raquel Castro, Armando Castro, Veronica Hernandez, Jessica Pesina, Amanda Zuniga, Justin Arredondo, Jacob Arredondo, Isaiah Arellano, and Esai Arellano, as well as his great-grandchildren Tyi Duque, Eli Duque, Noah Castro, Haven Castro, Leandro Hernandez, Natalya Hernandez, Kensley Zuniga, Kayne Zuniga, Aiden Arredondo, Blake Arredondo, Alakai Arredondo, and Ghaige Arredondo.

Macario was preceded in death by his devoted spouse Francisca Arredondo, son Samuel Arredondo, daughter Beatrice Ramirez, beloved grandson Joshua Arredondo, one brother, and five sisters. Their memories remain a treasured part of his story and the foundation of the close-knit family that continues to honor his name.

Known for his love of baking pecan pies, tending to his yard, playing the guitar, singing, and engaging in lively games of poker and lotería, Macario found joy in the simple pleasures of life. One memorable story that captures his enduring spirit occurred the night before his passing. Even though he was weakened and under medication, when asked about pears, he eagerly inquired if the family was playing lotería and was ready to join in the fun. His playful heart and zest for life shone brightly until the very end.

Macario’s family offers their deepest gratitude to his beloved older sister and devoted caregiver, Delma. Her time, strength, patience, and unconditional love provided comfort and peace during the most challenging moments of his life. The special bond they shared was a testament to family love and dedication.
