Maria Guadalupe Hesch, affectionately known as Oma, passed away peacefully on March 11, 2026, at the age of 95. Born on May 21, 1930, Maria was the cherished daughter of Jose Vega and Paz Reynoso. She spent her formative years in Mexico, cultivating a deep connection to her heritage and faith. A devoted member of the Catholic Church, Maria’s spiritual foundation was a guiding force throughout her life.
On August 20, 1955, Maria married Wolfgang Hesch, in a union that brought enduring love and companionship. Wolfgang preceded her in death, as did her beloved daughter Adriana Goodier, whose memories remain close to the hearts of those who loved them.
Maria’s legacy lives on through her loving family. She is lovingly remembered and survived by her children: Ilse Buchanan (late Bruce), Edward Hesch (Maria), Monica Gaytan (Jesús), and son-in-law Glen (Mary).
Her grandchildren—Erika Simmons, Leslie Maxwell, Nickolas Buchanan, Andrew Arellano, Andrea Ricciardi, Juston Arellano, Kristina Loh, Kent Hesch, and Kyle Goodier—carry forward her spirit and kindness. She was also a proud great-grandmother to Alexis Simmons, Lonnie Simmons Jr., Cameron Maxwell, Riley Maxwell, Bradford Maxwell, Luca Ricciardi, Reese Buchanan, Elijah Maxwell, Juliana Ricciardi, Aubrina Hester, Simon Maxwell, Ava Buchanan, Charlotte Maxwell, Ragan Hesch, and Wyatt Hesch, each of whom was a source of immense pride and joy.
In addition to being a devoted daughter, sister, wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, Maria thrived in her varied career before retiring after twenty years as a civilian clerk with the Dallas Police Department, where she was beloved by the officers she supported.
The family extends their heartfelt gratitude to Monica and Jesús Gaytan, and also to the dedicated caregivers and staff at Vitas Hospice Care (especially Ricardo, Mari, Otilia, Tanya, and Alexa) for the compassionate care and support provided during Maria’s final days.
A visitation to honor and remember Maria Guadalupe Hesch will be held on March 18, 2026, beginning at 10:00 a.m. at Chism-Smith Funeral Home, located at 403 South Britain Road in Irving, Texas.
The visitation will conclude at 11:00 a.m., followed immediately by the funeral service, continuing until 12:00 p.m.Following the service, Maria will be laid to rest at Calvary Hill Cemetery in Dallas, Texas, with burial beginning at 12:30 p.m.
Maria’s life was a testament to love, faith, and family—a legacy that endures in the hearts of all who were privileged to know her. Her memory is cherished deeply, and she will be profoundly missed.
