Oscar Leroy Starbuck, a beloved father, grandfather, great-grandfather, and cherished friend, passed away on August 24, 2025, at the age of 84. Born on March 15, 1941, in Clovis, New Mexico, Oscar was the son of Charles Augustus Starbuck and Lola Mae Starbuck. He grew up in Clovis, where he also attended high school, developing a strong work ethic that would guide him throughout his life.
Oscar served honorably in the Army National Guard of New Mexico, achieving the rank of E6. His dedication to public service was complemented by his professional skills; he enjoyed a rewarding career as a truck driver and diesel mechanic, demonstrating expertise not only as a diesel operator but as a pivotal member of his community.
A proud member of the Pentecostal church, Oscar found solace and purpose in his faith, which was deeply intertwined with his everyday life. His commitment to his beliefs was matched only by his love for traveling and spending quality time with family. He was known for his sense of humor, with memorable stories such as the light-hearted recollection of being “lost in Venice,” sharing a playful twist that reflected his joyful spirit.
Oscar was married to Fannie Mae Starbuck and is remembered for the love and support he provided to her and their large family. He is survived by six children: Jack Starbuck, Laura Jo Willhelm, Aloha Starbuck, Terry Shane Starbuck, Larry Adams, and Susan Gibson. His legacy continues through 21 grandchildren, 43 great-grandchildren, and 2 great-great-grandchildren. Oscar also leaves behind his brother, Jimmy Starbuck of Clovis, New Mexico, along with many extended family members and friends who will fondly remember his kindness and vivacity.
He was preceded in death by his parents, brother Ray Starbuck, and sister Charlene Newsome. The family wishes to extend their heartfelt gratitude to the Faith Presbyterian Hospice Care Team for the compassionate care they provided to Oscar during his final days.
Visitation will take place at Chism-Smith Funeral Home in Irving, Texas, on August 28, 2025, from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM. A funeral service will be held the following day, August 29, 2025, at 11:00 AM at the same location, followed by a graveside service at Oak Grove Memorial Gardens.
Oscar Leroy Starbuck's passing marks the end of an era filled with love, laughter, and indelible memories. His spirit will forever remain in the hearts of those who were fortunate enough to know him.
