It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Patricia Ann Carlton, affectionately known as Patty. who departed this life on January 31, 2026. Born on December 25, 1940, in Indianapolis, Indiana, Patricia was the cherished daughter of Gilbert J. Custer and Rosemary Custer. From her early years, she experienced a life filled with adventure as her father's work with Western Union took their family across various locations.
Patty graduated from Roswell High School and furthered her education at the University of Texas at Arlington, where she earned her Master of Social Work from UT Arlington. Her commitment to helping others was reflected in her career as a dedicated social worker for Promise House and as a substance abuse counselor, roles in which she made significant impacts on the lives of those she served.
Throughout her life, Patricia was deeply engaged in her community and was a proud member of the Beta Sigma Phi Women’s Fraternity. Her faith played a vital role in her life as well, and she was an active member of Sherwood Park Baptist Church. Even in later years Patty still continued her life in Christ.
In her personal life, Patty was married to Benny Carlton on September 21, 1959. She lovingly nurtured her family, demonstrating her commitment by being involved in their activities. As a devoted mother, she served as a Girl Scout leader for her two daughters and shared in her son’s passion for soccer, attending his games with pride.
Patty had an adventurous spirit and enjoyed traveling, creating beautiful memories as she explored remarkable destinations including Hawaii and Alaska. Her hobbies included watching movies, reading, and photography, pursuits she cherished throughout her life.
Patricia is survived by her daughters, Teresa Astudillo and Suzanne Jaynes; her son, Michael Carlton; her grandsons, Andrew Carlton and Zackery Carlton; her great-grandsons, Suede Carlton and Za'Karii Carlton; her sister, Harriet Ott; and her nieces Denise Martinez and Veronica Karam, as well as her nephews Allen Custer and Joshua Martinez.
