Sandra Jean McDonald, known affectionately as Mom and Mawmaw, passed away on November 7, 2025, in her beloved residence of Irving, Texas. Born on October 24, 1950, she was the cherished daughter of Jack Edward Hammonds and Vivian Estelle Vick Hammonds and grew up surrounded by the warm embrace of family and friends in Ennis.
Sandra was a proud graduate of Ennis High School before pursuing her passion for cosmetology at a local Beauty College. Her commitment to family and nurturing spirit defined her career, as she devoted her life primarily to being a homemaker. She often took on additional work to support her children’s school activities, demonstrating her unwavering dedication to their education and personal development.
In addition to her roles as a mother and homemaker, Sandra played an active part in her community and was a member of the Irving Baptist Fellowship Church. Her faith was a guiding light throughout her life.
On February 23, 1968, Sandra married Edward Lee McDonald. They shared a long and loving union that weathered life's ups and downs together. They built a family filled with love, laughter, and cherished memories.
Sandra is remembered fondly by her son Keith Lee McDonald, her daughter Rene’ McDonald-Sorrells, and her grandchildren: Paige Burwell, Ashtyn Sorrells, and Travis Sorrells, and great-grandchildren Magnolia Burwell and Luke Burwell. She leaves behind her brothers and sisters-in-law, Larry and Linda Hammonds, and Jackie and Charlotte Hammonds; sister and brother-in-law Vicki and James Carlson; as well as multiple nieces, nephews, cousins, and countless friends whose lives she touched.
She reunites in spirit with her deceased family members, including her father Jack, her mother Vivian, and her brothers Michael and Robert Hammonds. Also preceding her in death are her husband Edward McDonald, brother-in-law and sister-in-law Mac and PeteAnn Norrell, as well as her nephews Ronald and Bobby Hammonds, niece Nichole Estelle Forman, and great-nephew Dylan Kellum.
A celebration of Sandra Jean McDonald’s life will be held to honor her memory, her loving heart, and the impact she made in the lives of those around her. She will be deeply missed and lovingly remembered by all who had the privilege to know her.
