Sharon Peters

Sharon Peters, born September 19, 1942, in Dallas, Texas, passed away peacefully on July 29, 2026. The daughter of Charles Larkin McNiel and Mary Pauline Boyd, Sharon spent her formative years in the Oak Cliff area of Dallas, where she began to develop the values and interests that would shape her life.

A proud graduate of Justin F. Kimball High School, Sharon was known for her determined spirit and kindness. Though she did not attend college, Sharon demonstrated her remarkable work ethic through a varied and successful career. She held positions at Southwestern Light, contributed her talents as a cook at Shorty Hood’s Café—a beloved family business run by her mother and stepfather—before moving on to roles at Sweet Manufacturing, The Associates, and Citi Group. Each endeavor reflected her unwavering diligence and dedication to both her work and her family.

Her faith in Jesus Christ was an important part of Sharon’s life. As a member of North Irving Baptist Church, she found comfort and fellowship in her spiritual community. Beyond her professional and religious commitments, Sharon enjoyed a rich array of hobbies. She found joy in cooking, tending to her roses, assembling jigsaw puzzles, and crafting. Among her greatest sources of happiness, however, was her role as a devoted mother and grandmother, a role she cherished deeply.

Sharon’s marriage to Bill Peters on September 16, 1960, marked the beginning of a new chapter in her journey. Though they later divorced, Sharon’s home remained the loving center of family activities. Her daughters, Pam Peters and Paula Carmack, along with her son-in-law Ray Carmack, were constant sources of pride and affection. Sharon’s joy multiplied with the arrival of her grandsons, Lane Jones and Christian Jones, each of whom added light and laughter to her days.

Family was paramount to Sharon, and her bonds extended to her cousins, Jim David Yarbrough and Bob Yarbrough, each of whom will remember her for her warmth and steadfast support. She was preceded in death by her father, Charles Larkin McNiel; her stepmother, Lucille McNiel; her mother, Pauline Hood; and her stepfather, Wesley Carol Hood. Their memories and lessons remained a part of Sharon throughout her life.

Those who knew Sharon will recall her as someone who delighted in the everyday joys of life and the love of those around her. She treasured gathering with family, sharing stories, and ensuring that her home was always a welcoming haven.

Visitation for Sharon Peters will be held on Wednesday, August 5, 2026, from 1:00 PM to 2:00 PM at Chism-Smith Funeral Home, 403 South Britain Road, Irving, TX 75060. The funeral service will follow at the same location beginning at 2:00 PM. A graveside service will take place on Thursday, August 6, 2026, at 11:00 AM at Little Bethel Memorial Park, 1803 Cedar Hill Road, Duncanville, TX 75137.

Sharon’s compassionate spirit and loving heart leave an indelible mark on those who survive her. She will be profoundly missed and her memory cherished always.
