Tommy Leon Burns, a cherished husband, father, grandfather, and friend, passed away on July 16, 2025, at the age of 78. Born on December 11, 1946, in Providence, Rhode Island, Tommy lived a life marked by service, dedication, and a profound love for his family.

Prior to his long and respected career as an auto engine mechanic with Chrysler, Tommy proudly served in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam War. He held the rank of SP5 [T] and was stationed in Germany, where he fulfilled his duties with honor in the CO C 1BN 70ARMOR USAREUR. This chapter of his life instilled in him values of discipline, loyalty, and camaraderie that he carried with him throughout his civilian pursuits. 

In 1995, Tommy entered into matrimony with his beloved wife, April Suzanne Burns. Their partnership was one filled with love, mutual respect, and shared interests. Tommy took great joy in his family life, notably cherishing moments spent with his daughter, Alicia, and her husband, Roland Baker, as well as his sons, Benjamin McGonnigil, Louis McGonnigil, Kenneth McGonnigil and his wife, Maggie, Brian Miller, and Bradley Miller. He took immense pride in being a devoted grandfather, great-grandfather, and great-great-grandfather, scattering joy through his numerous grandchildren and their families.

Tommy’s passions extended beyond his profession and family life. He found pleasure in bowling, constructing model cars, and challenging himself with jigsaw puzzles and crosswords. Blessed with a love for golf, he was known to take countless naps while watching tournaments on tv.Tommy was predeceased by his daughter, Bernadette Burns, and son, Michael Miller, who are lovingly remembered by those who knew them.

His brother, Scott Burns, and sister-in-law, Brenda, also survive him, along with a large extended family who will miss his gentle spirit and warm heart.

A memorial service honoring Tommy's life will be held on July 25, 2025, starting at 1:00 PM at Chism-Smith Funeral Home, located at 403 South Britain Road in Irving, Texas. Family and friends are invited to celebrate the life of Tommy Leon Burns, whose legacy of love and service will forever remain in the hearts of all who knew him.
