West, Carolyn Eleanor was born May 20, 1922, in Bangor, Maine and passed away on June 22, 2021 in Irving, TX. Her father, Samuel Desposito, was a barber, and her mother, Marion Nelligan Desposito, was a homemaker, and active in her church and community. After high school Carolyn went to Washington D.C., to work for the government during World War II. Rooming with family friends she transferred to Chicago, and then finally to Oklahoma City where she worked for many years at Tinker Air Force Base. In 1956 she married Dean West and moved with daughter Jocelyn, to Irving, Texas in 1957. She was active in the First Baptist Church of Irving for many years. Carolyn left government work in 1964 and began a long career with the Irving Independent School District. She started at L.G. Smith Elementary and was totally devoted to the students there. Carolyn was quick to provide clothing, meals, etc.., for any child in need. She finished her career with the IISD at T.J. Lee Elementary, and returned to government work at the Social Security Administration. After retirement Carolyn focused on her family, always ready to help with her grandchildren and active at her church. When First Baptist Church of Irving started what was to become Fellowship Church, Carolyn and Dean became founding members, attending, and serving until it was no longer physically possible. Some of Carolyn’s best times were the Friday night domino games with friends. She looked forward to them and participated even after moving to Villages on MacArthur. Carolyn loved her family and her friends, and especially her church. She is survived by her husband Dean West, daughter Jocelyn Taylor and husband Steve, grandson Matthew Alexander and fiancé Leanne, granddaughter Tabatha Lowery, and great grandchildren Jakob Lowery, Jared Lowery and Aspen Alexander, brother-in-law Kenneth Day, as well as her beloved nieces Mary Holmes, Christine Joyce and Barbara Colley.
