Obituary James Raymond Brittain, age 85, of Double Oak, Texas passed away on Tuesday, August 18, 2020. He was born on June 5, 1935 in Weatherford, Texas, the son of James F. and Nettie Brittain, founders of Double Oak, Texas.. His parents preceded him in death. James was a 1959 graduate of The University of Texas, where he attended on a football scholarship. He later earned his Master's degree from North Texas State University. Jim met the love of his life Freda Schenk Brittain and they were married on January 29, 1959 in Oak Cliff, Texas. The couple had two children, Renee Brittain Wilson and James Franklin Brittain. James (Jim) retired from General Telephone Directories. Prior to that he enjoyed coaching football and other sports at Bowie High School, as well as, North Texas University. Jim was a 33rd Mason, Shriner and Past President of the Legion of Honors. He also served his country during the Berlin Crisis in The United States Army. He was a Boy Scout and sponsored many scouting events. Jim loved to hunt, swap, fix and sell old cars. Ford Man all the way! He is survived by his loving wife, Freda; son, James and wife, Jill; daughter Renee, and husband, Steve; brother, Don Brittain and wife, Joyce; grandchildren, Emylie Ellis, Hollie Ellis, Christopher Devery, James Dean Brittain and Erica Brittain; great grandchildren, Audrina Wilson, Cristian Wilson, Noelle Mosey and Ayden James Brittain. Visitaion will be held on Saturday, August 22nd from 9:30-11:00 am at the funeral home. Funeral services will be on Saturday, August 22nd at 11:00 am in the Chism-Smith Funeral Home Chapel. Interment will immediately follow at Oak Grove Memorial Gardens in Irving, Texas.
