With heavy hearts, we announce the passing of Jose Ruben Hernandez, a beloved husband, father, brother, uncle, and respected member of the community. He was born on September 20, 1938, in Donna, Texas, to his parents, Ramon Hernandez, Jr. and Cristela Garcia.

On November 19, 1961, in Donna, Texas, he found the love of his life and was united in marriage with Dora Benitez. Their love story was a testament to enduring love and partnership, a beacon of inspiration for all who knew them.

Jose was born and raised in the Rio Grande Valley, but his life took him all over the state of Texas, and to places like New Mexico, Virginia, Central and South America, and finally to be a longtime resident of Fort Worth, Texas. Jose proudly served in the United States Air Force, serving his country with honor and dedication. He joined the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) in 1963 and retired in 1994. During his career from the FAA he also worked with the United Nations International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) as an Air Traffic Services Expert. His commitment to public safety was unwavering, and his expertise was highly regarded by colleagues and friends alike.  After retiring with the FAA, he continued to serve in the aviation field as a weather observer until 2013 when he fully retired.

Jose loved being a member of the International Lions Club since 1965, especially the Irving Noon Day Lions.  He also was a member of the American Legion Post 493 in Nederland TX.  Jose had a lifelong commitment to service of the community and camaraderie with his numerous friends and colleagues.

Jose is survived by his devoted wife, Dora B. Hernandez, their loving daughter Christi Maier (Bill), and their son Ruben Hernandez (Jan). He was very fond of William Maier (Svenja & Kaleo) and Ian Miller, whom he loved as if they were his own grandchildren.

He is also survived by his sisters Carmen Bachman, Rachel Barrera, and Cris Garcia, who shared a close bond and many cherished memories with their oldest brother.

Jose Ruben Hernandez was preceded in death by his parents, Ramon and Cristela, and his siblings, Rebecca Garcia and Ramon Hernandez III, whose memories will forever live on in the hearts of those who loved him.
