Elinor Anne Cordell
August 2, 1941 - October 29, 2019
ObituaryElinor Anne “Nell” Cordell passed from her earthly life to her heavenly life on October 29, 2019. She was born in Leland, MS on August 2, 1941. She was preceded in death by her parents, Pete and Bettye (Maganos) Nunnery and her husband, John Cordell. She is survived by her sister, Nancy Clack of Weatherford, TX, two daughters, Sherry Deason of Irving, TX and Nancy Bradford of Nevada, MO, seven granddaughters, Melissa Bumgarden of Irving, TX, Candace King of Ragley, LA, Amanda Adkihari of Carrollton, TX, Sara Clements of Nevada, MO, Stephanie Gallegos of Irving, TX, Amber Patterson of Irving, TX and Valerie Bradford of Irving, TX. One loving grandson-in-law Michael Gallegos and 15 great-grandchildren.
She graduated from Leland High School in 1959, married John and started a family. She worked as a bookkeeper from many years. Once their daughters had grown up and moved out, she went to college and ultimately earned a Bachelors Degree in Social Work. This led to a new career in Nursing Home Administration. She retired in 2003 and spent most of her time since then caring for her family and doing volunteer work for Many Helping Hands and Irving Cares.
She was very active at St Marks Episcopal Church. Working with the youth, serving at the altar, participating in the mentor program at Lee Britain Elementary. Most recently serving as Directress of the Altar Guild. She also worked with the DFW Cursillo Movement for many years and was a member of the Order of the Daughters of the King.
She was outspoken, opinionated, and sometimes downright stubborn and ornery. But she was also loving, kind, encouraging and uplifting. She knew who she was, and that Jesus loved her anyway. And so do we…. She was truly one of a kind and will be deeply missed…

Granny was such a unique personality who would make you laugh or would tell it like it was! I am glad she is with her father now and without pain. She was loved by many and will be missed terribly. Love you Granny!
I just heard today that Anne had passed away. While it's been a couple of years since we'd spoken, she will never be forgotten! As one of the original Twister Sisters (one of our original 7 who met through the Komen web site - all brought together in support and to encourage one another get through this disease known as breast cancer), she was always the life of any gathering! As the oldest of us all, she spoke her mind and we loved her for that. My prayers are with her family - whom she loved dearly and spoke about all the time. May God grant you peace knowing she's celebrating with 3 of her Twister Sisters now. Sending you love and hugs.
