Obituary

Robert Lee (Bob) Lane, age 77, of Irving, TX went to be with the Lord on Thursday, May 16, 2019. He was born on December 4, 1941 in Wayne County, NC and grew up in Free Will Baptist Children’s Home in Middlesex, NC. He is preceded in death by his parents, George and Mavin Lane; siblings, Jake Lane, Beulah Jackson, Durwood Lane, Katherine Tarlton and Patricia Meier. Bob served his country in the United States Air Force at Dover AFB where he earned a Good Conduct Medal and a Small Arms Expert Marksmanship Ribbon. He worked for General Motors for over 30 years as a Team Leader before his retirement. Bob then worked for FEMA for over 10 years. Bob enjoyed watching TV and was a big Dallas Cowboy, Rangers and Maverick fan. He looked forward every year to returning to his hometown in North Carolina for the Annual Lane Family Reunion. His only daughter Amy was the apple of his eye. He loved her more than anything in the world. He became a grandfather six years ago when Amy and her husband Robert adopted Bella Grace. Bob had an instant bond with her because she was adopted. He adored her as much as Bella adored him. Bob loved the Lord and was a very giving man. He had a great desire to help people. He leaves behind his loving daughter Amy Patton and husband Robert; granddaughter, Bella Grace Patton; siblings, Kenneth Lane (Martha), Bill Lane (Sara), John Lane (Linda); and sister-in-law, Nancy Lane as well as a host of nieces, nephews and dear friends. In lieu of flowers, it was Bob's wish that donations be made to the church his daughter and son-in-law pastor (Faith Family Church - www.faithfam.com) The family will receive friends from 10:00-11:30 on Thursday, May 23rd. The funeral service will follow at 11:30 at Chism-Smith Funeral Home with Interment at Dallas Fort Worth National Cemetery.

I was at the Free Will Baptist Orphanage 1949-59 with Robert Lane. His nickname was Toe and mine was Duck. We were in the same grade in school, played on the orphanage baseball team together and high school basketball and baseball. His brother Jacob married my sister Nancy. He was an orphan brother I'll always miss.  Jerry Smith
